If you answer to any of those questions is "no," then you NEED this set of disks just chock full of social guidance to set you on the right path!
Made between the 1930s and the early 70s, these educational films helped shape the character of the youth of America (or so it was assumed!). Produced by Coronet films Sid Davis, McGraw-Hill and others. In my school, we watched many of these films in classrooms with the the blackout shades left over from WWII drawn while the 16mm projector clattered away in the back of the room. Cheesy background music and the voice-over came from a crummy gray speaker box (with the "Califone" logo on it in hideous "50s modern" red lettering) strung by a tangled wire - constituting a definite safety hazard - from the projector to the front of the room by the AV geek with the pocket protector.
Designed to help American teens turn into model citizens these films touched on subjects such as social skills, dating, career choices, money, politics, bicycle safety, strangers, unwelcome affection and many other relevant subjects. While the overall tone is positive, there is an underlying sense of desperation, a fear that, without proper and rigorous indoctrination, American post-war teens would invariably turn into juvenile delinquents, reckless hot-rodders, and indulge in various forms of socially injurious deviancy. In other words, TURN COMMUNIST!
This two DVD set with 163 films digitized into 320 x 240 mp4 files represents a slice of Americana showing the societal perceptions and values of the age.
